Reading Time: 2 minutes

Oct 5th morning 10 am caught in 2 minds about going out to an orphanage where our company had planned to conduct a medical camp. At last I decided to go and joined 5 other folks towards Thiruneermalai a place interior in Pallavaram, Chennai. Quite a good journey in the company of one of the latest chartbusters “Voda Voda Voda” from Mayakkam Enna and her relatives.

We reach there around 11 am and held talks with the supervisor of the home regarding the essentials for the medical camp while my colleagues were busy recollecting their memory of the nursery rhymes (the one I enjoyed the most was the kuyil and jail combo) and improving their individual skills. The doctors came in and straight away got into business.

It was high time I start doing the thing that i love doing the most – being with the kids and reliving my childhood. There was never a dull moment there. All kids though very young loved every moment they spent at the home. The message no matter the situation you should learn to enjoy life and improve yourselves.

Then came the moment that made me feel idiotic, ashamed and embarrassed. There were few elders among the group of kids. I went on to speak to them. There was a old lady incharge of the kitchen. She was enquiring about my work, my studies, my age etc etc. I just asked her if she worked here? (twice as she didn’t hear it properly). She replied yes with a beaming smile. Then I asked where is her home? (twice). When i repeated it assuming she didn’t hear it the first time, the smile vanished and there was only silence. The moment i took a look at her eyes I understood it was the worst question that I could have asked anyone. I felt guilty and very bad. But then, every mom knows to hide her worries and smile to the child. So did she. She understood how bad I felt and then diverted the topic to the 2 loving kids who ever given the utmost attention by us and just moved on. I felt both happy and sad at the same time. Seriously why do people have to send their parents to old age home? Why give birth to kids when u cant take care of them? When there are people who are the richest in the world do not have kids, OMG!! why give kids to people who cant save their own A** and let the child suffer. (No offence meant to people who have genuine reasons but i don’t feel many have). Seriously Enna Vazhkai da Idhu…

One small request guys. These people need money, clothes, shelter, food….. But more than this they need something more valuable, few things that can be quantified, few things that all can give for free…. TIME and LOVE… Lets enlighten their world with Joy…
