What We Tried and Our Ratings
Let’s dive into the dishes we savored and rate them based on taste, presentation, and authenticity:
Madurai Malli Dosa
A delightful ode to Madurai, this dosa is a celebration of flavors. The golden, crisp crepe is generously layered with a vibrant and aromatic coriander chutney, complemented by a perfectly spiced potato filling. Each bite bursts with freshness, taking you straight to the streets of South India. Rating: Must Have

Kothu Parotta
A quintessential South Indian street food, kothu means “chopped,” and this dish delivers a medley of finely shredded parotta mixed with an array of flavorful vegetables. Packed with spices and cooked to perfection, it’s a symphony of textures and tastes that showcases the soul of Tamil street cuisine. Rating: Must Have

Podi Dosa
Simple yet divine, this dosa was coated with a layer of spicy podi powder that added just the right kick. A must-try for anyone who appreciates bold, robust flavors. Rating: Must Have
Sambhar Vadas
Golden and crispy on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside, these fried lentil doughnuts were pure perfection. Paired with the tangy chutneys and sambar, the vadas offered a comforting taste of home. Rating: Should Have
Onion Rava Dosa
Thin, crispy, and golden, this rava dosa was a true testament to South Indian culinary mastery. Enhanced by the sweetness of caramelized onions, it tasted just like it would in a traditional Tamil Nadu home. Rating: Should Have

Poori with Potato Masala
The poori was light, airy, and impressively non-greasy, making it a delight to savor. Paired with a flavorful potato masala, it offered a comforting balance of textures and tastes. While the portion size was smaller than expected, it’s bound to be a favorite among kids for its playful and satisfying appeal. Rating: Could Have

Room for Improvement: Could Have
While most dishes were delightful, a few fell short of expectations:
- Chettinad Mushroom: While the dish showed promise, it didn’t deliver the fiery punch typical of Chettinad cuisine.
- South Indian Filter Coffee: Though flavorful, it could be thicker and frothy to match the classic South Indian standard.
Shree Akshayam has undoubtedly brought a much-needed slice of South India to Burlington/ Hamilton Region. While there are areas for refinement, the authenticity of many dishes make it a worthy try. Looking forward to the dine-in experience which I am sure is bound to elevate the experience further.
